Established in 1978, Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS) was the first remote Aboriginal Medical Service in Western Australia. About the Opportunity 

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time Psychologist to join our growing Social and Emotional Wellbeing team in Broome, WA. You will have the opportunity to work across a diverse range of fields, including disabilities, aged care, mental health, and family and domestic violence.

Reporting to the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Manager, you will be working with an experienced, multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based, culturally-safe psychological assessments and interventions.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Perform psychological assessments for children, young people, and families.
  • Support implementation of evidence-based psychological interventions.
  • Conduct risk assessments for suicide and violence, and provide referrals and treatment.
  • Utilise a person-centred approach in psychological services.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to coordinate care for BRAMS clients, including liaising with internal and external providers and participating in case reviews.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be fully qualified to practice as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist and hold relevant registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. We are open to provisional general psychologists applying.

You will need a strong understanding of the health issues impacting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with demonstrated experience working sensitively and effectively with First Nations people.

A naturally collaborative team player with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, you'll be able to adapt your communication style to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. As such, you will possess the following attributes:

  • Flexibility: adaptable and accommodating to the needs of your patients; 
  • Resilience: able to work in a challenging environment with the maturity and strength to handle difficult conversations and situations;
  • Passion: willing to go beyond just providing clinical care, bringing an understanding of social, cultural, and historical factors; and
  • Solutions focused: take an active approach to find effective solutions with the ability to make decisions based on different patients and their circumstances.

Please note: Prior to commencement, you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A current Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required are also essential for this role.
