Established in 1978, Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS) was the first remote Aboriginal Medical Service in Western Australia. Committed to the core principles of Aboriginal self-determination, access, equity, empowerment and reconciliation, they are an Aboriginal community owned and controlled health service that provides holistic, culturally appropriate curative services as well as integrated preventative programs.

BRAMS now has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Psychologist to join their Social and Emotional Wellbeing team in Broome, WA.

Reporting to the Social and Emotional Wellbeing Manager, you will be working with an experienced, multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence-based, culturally-safe psychological assessments and intervention.

More specifically, some of your key duties will include (but will not be limited to):

• Undertake psychological assessments with clients including children, young people and families;
• Prepare and assist in the implementation of evidence-based psychological interventions;
• Conduct risk assessments, including assessment of suicide risk and violence risk and provide follow-up support, referrals and treatment;
• Apply a person-centred approach to psychological services; and
• Work collaboratively as part of the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care for BRAMS clients, including liaising with internal and external service providers and actively participate in case review meetings.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will be fully qualified to practice as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, and hold relevant registration with the Psychology Board of Australia.

You will need a strong understanding of the health issues impacting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with demonstrated experience working sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

A naturally collaborative team player, with outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, you'll be able to adapt your communication style to work effectively with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds.

Finally, you will need the resilience to work in an undeniably challenging environment, with the region seeing some of the highest suicide rates in the world. You'll have the personal maturity and strength to handle potentially confronting conversations and situations, and understand the importance of professional boundaries when working with clients. 

Please note: Prior to commencement you will need to undergo a National Police Clearance and obtain a current Ochre Card. A current Driver's License and the ability to drive to communities as required is also essential for this role.
